Outer Space Viewer ProjectI'm so happy to be sharing an "outta-this-world" project in collaboration with Aleene's glue. View space through this window-like diorama that displays planets, stars and even aliens. Use clear glue and paper plates to create an astronomical scene. Space has always been one of those true mysteries that we may never have all of the answers to but I hope that we never stop wondering and discovering. Explore the possibilities with the kids while taking a trip in your spaceship and making this super spacey project! Visit Aleenes.com to see more about these projects. First I'll show you how to make the planets. They're made out of dried clear glue! It's a fun way to make your planets and a bit unique too. After you make your planets you can use them in your scene. I'll also show you how to create the paper plate scene all at Aleenes.com! You'll find a complete materials list too, but be sure to get creative and add your own unique details, just like outer space there are many possibilities! Check out a short video below!

3D Paper AppleIt's the most wonderful time of the year right? Haha! All of the kids are back at school or about to be. Here in New York many schools don't start up again until after Labor Day. For those of you looking to give a special teacher a nice little gift, how about this super fun 3D paper apple. You could use it as a pad for jotting down notes or as a little journal or just as a nice piece of paper art for your desk. I just might do all three, probably to write down logins and passwords! But whichever way, this handmade project will surely be admired and appreciated. Hellowonderful.co and I got together on another great project that you can make with the kids too. Hellowonderful.co used the apple printables to create an apple book with pictures of her kids and encouraging little quotes to get your little ones excited about going back to school. So check out the video tutorial and hellowonderful.co's version of this craft project! You can get the apple printables below... Please right click the files and save them to your computer before printing. If you are having trouble with the printed size of the images, make sure that you select "fit to page" or "print actual size" in your printer options window. Do not print from the open window of your internet browser after clicking on the file, your printout will be very tiny!
I've included a template with the leaf by itself if you'd like to print the apples and leaf on different colored papers. Another file has an apple and the leaf together. I chose to make a multi-colored apple because I couldn't choose just one! I think it looks great and festive, fun for anytime of the year too!
Unicorn Pencil Toppers PapercraftUnicorns on my pencils, yes please! How fun and easy are these pencil topper papercrafts. You can add your own streamers to bump up the magic. These are great for back to school or anytime for that matter, kids will love swooshing their unicorns through the air, plus I think little treasures like this get the kids excited to get back into the school year routine. You can get these unicorn pencil toppers for free if you sign up for The Art Dream's newsletter! You can find the form right here on the blog in the side bar to the right, or by going to the home page. You'll get an email right away containing the file. * UPDATE! I have now made this printable available in this post, see below for the pdf along with the directions! These are super easy to put together and since they're paper you can make as many as you like for a fraction of the cost of similar trinkets for your pencils. You will of course need your own tissue paper or whatever material you'd like for the mane. My video below shows off these happy twirling unicorns so check it out. Please save the file to your computer before printing. If you are having trouble with the printed size of the image, make sure that you select "fit to page" or "print actual size" in your printer options window.
Materials:
Directions: Step 1. Sign up for my newsletter. Save the file to your computer. Step 2. Print out the unicorn heads, you get two on one sheet. Cut out the shapes, there are four in total. Step 3. Score all of the dotted lines with a craft knife or you can use a bone folder. A craft stick will work fine as well. Step 4. Fold the horn and glue the flap down to its corresponding side. Set aside. Step 5. Glue strips of tissue paper to the head along the side with the ears. Step 6. Use a hole puncher to cut out the little gray circle. Step 7. Assemble the unicorn by folding and glueing down the flaps on their corresponding sides, it'll be like a little box. Step 8. Glue on the horn. Step 9. Place on top of a pencil. You can reinforce it with glue if you'd like. Remember to sign up for the newsletter, you'll also get my Game of Thrones Drogon fortune teller papercraft as well! Have fun making your mythical creatures!
Game of Thrones Drogon Fortune TellerDrogon is Daenerys Targaryen's mighty dragon, and I've turned him into a super cool fortune teller papercraft! Ok so this one is more for the adults to enjoy but you can just tell the kids you found a really cool dragon craft for them to make. The kids will love how fierce he is! Anyway, if you're a fan of Game of Thrones like I am then you know how thrilling and exciting it is to see each scenario of this fantastic show, especially when Daenerys mounts Drogon to soar through the sky. I thought Drogon would make a great fortune teller because it would allow me to open and close the mouth, bringing some action to this papercraft. You can get Drogon for free when you sign up for The Art Dream's newsletter! You'll get it right away when you do! The sign up form is right here on the blog in the side bar to the right, just scroll down to the bottom. You can also find the sign up form on the home page. Take a look at my video of this Drogon papercraft below, the photos don't do this guy any justice. It's very simple to make too, it's exactly how you used to make them in elementary and middle school. Here are some directions and a materials list as well... Please save the file to your computer before printing. If you are having trouble with the printed size of the image, make sure that you select "fit to page" or "print actual size" in your printer options window. Materials:
Directions: Step 1. Sign up for my newsletter and save the file to your computer. Print on white cardstock. Cut out the square. Step 2. Score all of the dotted lines using a bone folder or a craft stick. Scoring helps immensely to fold the paper. Step 3. Fold in the traditional style of a paper fortune teller. Fold the corners in towards the middle, flip and repeat. Step 4. Gently form the fortune teller and you're done! My favorite is when Daenerys yells "dracarys" which is a prompt for the dragons to breath fire!!! Oh and disclosure, this papercraft does not breath actual fire! Haha
Lavender Field FairiesFairies are a fluttering among the lavender fields, what inspiration those beautiful fragrant flowers are and the fairies are gathering them to keep the bad spirits away. Create these fairies from popsicle sticks and a little fairy dust! Have you guys visited a local lavender farm? I have here in New York, it was beautiful and so inspirational. I thought what a great, relaxing place for fairies to live, thus my lavender field fairies were born! They're made with various size craft sticks and a whole sachet of fairy dust! I teamed up with Aleene's glue to bring you this fun craft to do with the kiddies. See my full tutorial for making these beauties here at Aleene's Glue! Visit Aleenes.com and learn about the best glue ever! Plus check out their awesome craft ideas and tutorials! You'll need a few everyday art and craft materials to make these but remember to be creative and put your own twist on making a unique fairy. What's really cool about these are the the tulle treat bags for the dresses they're the kind you get at a wedding with those candied almonds in 'em haha do people still do that? Anyway, you just slice the bottom of the bag and voilà, just slide them on and use the string to tie them in place! See just how I did it in my video tutorial at Aleenes.com! And remember to do fun things with the yarn hair, like in the video and middle photo of the gallery below! |
