Recycled Box Project

Every so often it's nice to have students do a group activity. They learn to work together to construct a cohesive design and as a team they come up with some awesome projects.

This project was inspired by the Valentine's Day box idea. We got a late start because the kids were still working on their previous project and I hadn't collected enough tissue boxes from the parents and teachers.

Once I had all of the materials in place I asked my 5th grade classes to split up into groups. Their task was to design and construct a unique sculpture using tissue boxes, cardboard tubes, foam sheets and construction paper. They worked efficiently to meet the deadline otherwise they'd spend an eternity on this project.


Once all was said and done the projects were presented and guest judges came in to pick a winner. Kids this age love a competition! It was fun and the kids and I had a blast!
