Halloween Paper Skull CraftBony and brooding, this paper skull is not so thrilled to be separated from the rest of his bone body. Design your own skull head for Halloween! I just couldn’t resist making a simple skull head that I could display as is or decorate to my hearts content! Halloween is just around the corner and I wanted to give you guys something fun yet easy to make with the kids at the last minute. So here’s this pale, boxy skeleton ready to be decorated and displayed. Use makers, crayons, stickers, glitter or even gems to make this guy spooky, scary and outstanding!
A great way to dress this skull up is to decorate him with patterns symbolic of the Mexican holiday “Dia De Los Muertos”, it’s called “Day of the Dead” in English and they celebrate and honor their relatives who’ve passed on! It’s a very beautiful holiday which is recognized on November 1st. Check out how I’ve decorated my skull below. If you need some reference then just look up “sugar skulls” in your search engine. I used markers and a sharpie to draw on the details, let your imagination run wild. Be sure to download the file below! Please right click the file and save it to your computer before printing. If you are having trouble with the printed size of the image, make sure that you select "fit to page" or "print actual size" in your printer options window. Do not print from the open window of your internet browser after clicking on the file, your printout will be very tiny!
If you love Halloween then check out my original haunted paper house designs in the shop here at The Art Dream! I’ve also created many other fun and easy Halloween crafts, just explore the blog to find some more inspiration. Materials:
Directions: Step 1. Download and print the skull on cardstock paper, you could use whatever color you’d like. Step 2. Design and color your skull however you wish. You may want to save three dimensional embellishments for after it’s folded and put together. Step 3. Cut out the skull and score on all of the lines. You could use a craft knife, popsicle stick or even the corner of a credit card. Scoring is done by pressing and dragging the tip of your tool across the line creating a dent making it easier to fold. Step 4. Fold on all of the lines, glue the tabs and press them to their correlating sides. The skull will be a 5 sided box when finished. Halloween Watercolor PaintingUse black glue to outline this charming jack-o-lantern watercolor painting. You can even use a white crayon to make patterns that will magically show up after your start painting. Halloween is a great time to break out those watercolor palettes and create a hauntingly magical painting to hang in the window or on the refrigerator for decoration. This also makes for a great lesson plan to do with your students of any age, you can discuss and learn about the history of Halloween! Then create your own masterpiece! If you’d like a full photo tutorial on how I made this painting then head on over to Aleenes.com where you can find the best tacky glue EVER! I’ll show you the little tricks and treats for making your own, plus there are four designs in total for you to print and trace! Make all of them with your kids or set this up as a family activity for your next paint night! You can download the patterns right here at The Art Dream below... Please right click the files and save them to your computer before printing. If you are having trouble with the printed size of the images, make sure that you select "fit to page" or "print actual size" in your printer options window. Do not print from the open window of your internet browser after clicking on the file, your printout will be very tiny!
Remember to teach your family, friends or students about Halloween too! Did you know that Halloween is a 2,000 year old tradition? Well it is, and it all began with the ancient Celtics in Ireland with the tradition called Samhain pronounced Sow-in. They followed the Pagan religion and the Pagans feared the winter and believed that Autumn was the time when the veil between the living and the dead was the thinnest allowing spirits to roam the earth and create even more fear and horror. As Christianity spread in the 7th century the Catholic church adapted Halloween in order to convert more people over to the religion, making Halloween a Christian holiday. As the Irish left to migrate to America they brought their traditions with them, soon Americans fell under the spell of Halloween making it the most beloved holiday next to Christmas. Pumpkins weren’t used as jack-o-lanterns until the tradition made its way to the U.S, prior to that the Irish carved turnips instead!

Score all of the dotted lines with a craft knife or you can use a blunt edge tool like a popsicle stick or a credit card. Step 3. Glue the walls of the house together then the roof to the top, be sure that the gap is in the front of the house. Step 4. Glue the entryway to the house then the smaller roof to the entryway. Glue the chimney on wherever you’d like. Step 5. Glue the two pieces of fence together and bend on the dotted lines, place the fence around the house. As a little bonus craft project I put together a video tutorial on how I made the spooky trees! You only need a few simple things and you’ll never guess what the trees are made of... they’re grape stems. One afternoon when I had finished my grapes I had thought, ya know these will make cool, spooky Halloween trees for a mini paper village, and so here they are! I think they make the perfect accent and background detail for these haunted houses! Check out my video tutorial below to see how I made ‘em. The Halloween season is upon us and I’m super excited, stay tuned for more Halloween crafts by The Art Dream!
Outer Space Viewer ProjectI'm so happy to be sharing an "outta-this-world" project in collaboration with Aleene's glue. View space through this window-like diorama that displays planets, stars and even aliens. Use clear glue and paper plates to create an astronomical scene. Space has always been one of those true mysteries that we may never have all of the answers to but I hope that we never stop wondering and discovering. Explore the possibilities with the kids while taking a trip in your spaceship and making this super spacey project! Visit Aleenes.com to see more about these projects. First I'll show you how to make the planets. They're made out of dried clear glue! It's a fun way to make your planets and a bit unique too. After you make your planets you can use them in your scene. I'll also show you how to create the paper plate scene all at Aleenes.com! You'll find a complete materials list too, but be sure to get creative and add your own unique details, just like outer space there are many possibilities! Check out a short video below! 3D Paper AppleIt's the most wonderful time of the year right? Haha! All of the kids are back at school or about to be. Here in New York many schools don't start up again until after Labor Day. For those of you looking to give a special teacher a nice little gift, how about this super fun 3D paper apple. You could use it as a pad for jotting down notes or as a little journal or just as a nice piece of paper art for your desk. I just might do all three, probably to write down logins and passwords! But whichever way, this handmade project will surely be admired and appreciated. Hellowonderful.co and I got together on another great project that you can make with the kids too. Hellowonderful.co used the apple printables to create an apple book with pictures of her kids and encouraging little quotes to get your little ones excited about going back to school. So check out the video tutorial and hellowonderful.co's version of this craft project! You can get the apple printables below... Please right click the files and save them to your computer before printing. If you are having trouble with the printed size of the images, make sure that you select "fit to page" or "print actual size" in your printer options window. Do not print from the open window of your internet browser after clicking on the file, your printout will be very tiny!
I've included a template with the leaf by itself if you'd like to print the apples and leaf on different colored papers. Another file has an apple and the leaf together. I chose to make a multi-colored apple because I couldn't choose just one! I think it looks great and festive, fun for anytime of the year too!
